Salma Hayek feared the Pope would revoke an honour for her charity work after she shared a picture of her admiring Susan Sarandon’s cleavage.

The Tale Of Tales actress met the Catholic Church leader at the Vatican on Sunday when she was awarded a medal alongside stars George Clooney and Richard Gere for their work promoting the Pope’s arts organisation Scholas Occurrentes.

But an Instagram shot of her and Susan Sarandon comparing their ample chests in low-cut dresses at last month’s Cannes Film Festival left her worried she had offended him.

The 49-year-old said: “I was very honoured and excited to be receiving a medal from him.

The Herald:

“But I was really nervous because I had just posted an Instagram of me staring at Susan Sarandon’s boobs and I was so afraid he would see that picture and take away my medal!”

However, the Pope might have been more perturbed by the time Salma tried to convince her husband she was having an affair.

The Herald:

Revealing her husband, Francois-Henri Pinault, hates her habit of adopting stray animals, she said she was “terrified” of how he would react to her bringing home a puppy she met on set in Bulgaria.

She told Graham Norton: “So I came up with the brilliant idea of pretending I was having an affair so when he found out about the dog and that I wasn’t having an affair he would feel better.”

Thankfully for the future of their marriage, he pre-empted her plan. “It was so sad that I was so predictable,” she said.

Looking stunning in a butterfly-patterned black dress beside fellow guests Kelsey Grammer, Tamsin Greig, Rhod Gilbert and Alicia Keys, Salma confessed to suffering a facial hair disaster when filming her role as artist Frida Kahlo in 2002 film Frida.

To replicate the painter’s famous monobrow, Salma said: “I shaved it to make it grow more but it came out all pointy and not in the right direction.

“I went a bit crazy in the moment and even did the moustache but luckily that is still soft.”

The Graham Norton Show airs on BBC One at 10.35pm every Friday.
