HOLYROOD’S party leaders will snub Donald Trump’s visit to Scotland later this month.

The controversial Republican nominee for US president is due in Ayrshire on June 24 for the relaunch of his £200 million Trump Turnberry golf course.

In recent days, gold-on-black invitations have arrived for MSPs from Trump’s son, Eric.

They say: “It is with great pleasure that I request your attendance for the grand opening of the iconic trump Turnberry, a Luxury Collection Resort. Celebrate with us as we unveil the magnificent new Trump Turnberry in style.”

However’s the property billionaire has been comprehensively blanked by party bosses.

Nicola Sturgeon, Labour’s Kezia Dugdale, Tory Ruth Davidson and LibDem Willie Rennie have all rejected invites for the event, which falls the day after the EU referendum.

Green leader Patrick Harvie, a frequent critic of Trump, has not been invited, and said he would refuse if he was. A party source said every Green MSP would “stick any invite in the bin”.

Rennie said he would refuse to attend unless Trump, who has called for a ban on Muslims entering America, accepted an invitation to meet members of Edinburgh’s Muslim Community.

He said: “Donald Trump has spent the last year insulting Muslims in the strongest terms without learning about their religion. Muslims in Edinburgh have issued a series of invitations for him to come and see just how wrong he is about their faith.

“If he does not feel able to take an hour out of his schedule to meet with them there is no way I am going to spend a morning listening to him spouting nonsense at Turnberry. Scotland is a country built on tolerance and openness. There should be no room for racism here.”

Davidson’s office said she would not accept the invite as she would be too busy with media interviews about the EU referendum, however it was possible that Tory tourism spokeswoman Rachael Hamilton, a South Scotland MSP, would attend instead.

A Labour source said Dugdale “won’t be involving herself with anything to do with Trump”.

In an interview in April with comedy actor Greg McHugh, of Gary Tank Commander, Dugdale said of Trump: “The guy's an arse. It's that simple.”

Sturgeon will also make zero effort to meet ‘The Donald’.

In December, she ended his role as an international trade ambassador for Scotland - given in 2006 by First minister Jack McConnell - after Trump called for the "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States" after a mass shooting in California.

In March, Sturgeon also endorsed Hillary Clinton for President, explaining: "I find many of Donald Trump's views really abhorrent. Particularly the views he's expressed about the Muslim community. I hope and believe the good sense of the American people will prevail."

A spokesman for Sturgeon said: “The First Minister does not plan to meet Mr Trump on this visit to Scotland.”

A Labour spokesman added: “On the day we will learn the outcome of the EU referendum the visit of Donald Trump is not a priority."

Local MSP Jeanne Freeman said she had been invited, but would not be attending.

“I’ve already got another constituency commitment in the diary with ordinary folk. I’m not going to change that,” she said

No one from Trump Turnberry was available for comment yesterday.
