A pub landlady is surrounded by Muppets - even when there are no customers after getting a mural of the legendary puppets painted on the wall of her boozer.

Michelle Newlands, 39, has 15 of the main characters, including Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Sam the Eagle, staring down from the wall of her pub.

And the mural has already proven a hit with customers of the Midas pub in Elgin, Moray.

Michelle's dad Dave Hill had placed a picture of the much-loved heckling characters Statler and Waldorf on the wall when she first bought the pub nine years ago.

But after Dave bought a hotel in Burghead, Moray, last year, he took the popular picture with him.

Michelle said the idea of having the Muppets painted on the wall just made sense.

She said: "My dad put up a picture of Statler and Waldorf on the wall when we first bought the pub because he just thinks they are hilarious.

"He bought a hotel last year though and took the picture there with him. It was really popular with our customers so we looked into having them painted on the wall.

"It seemed to go down really well with everyone so we just kept going to the point where we now have 15 of the main Muppets on the wall.

"Some of the regulars have a joke with me that at least I'll have someone to talk to when the pub is empty."

The mural was painted by local artist Anna Zsofia Kajos.

Michelle added: "An artist who often comes into the bar offered to help us with the painting. She is originally from Hungary so hadn't actually seen the show before.

"She did some research and watched some episodes so that she knew what she was doing for the painting.

"It has definitely been a hit with the customers."
