2 Gig in the Goil

Lochgoilhead will claim its place on the Scottish music map this weekend when it hosts its first festival.

The boutique event, which is the brainchild of Argyll Holidays, will showcase the country’s best traditional, contemporary and acoustic acts across three stages and features a headlining performance from Glasgow singer songwriter Gerry Cinnamon. Other artists performing at the new three-day festival include Medicine Men and ex-Skippinnish members Robert Robertson and Ross Wilson.

With stages at the Drimsynie House Hotel and overlooking the stunning banks of Loch Goil, this festival is set to be something special.

3 Cream o’ the Croft Bike Festival

The mountain bike festival has a huge range of activities, races and coaching sessions for all ages and abilities. Highlights include top class mountain bike and mini Enduros, round three of the Scottish Bike Trials Championships, pedal bike racing, a pumptrack challenge and bike drag racing.

4 Cupar Arts Festival

5 Edinburgh International Film Festival

Celebrating its 70th edition, the Edinburgh International Film Festival features an abundance of new premieres, features, documentaries, retrospectives, shorts, panel discussions and educational workshops. 6 Pehchaan: Art from Another India

This exciting project showcases a new collection of North India Art commissioned for Glasgow Museums. The collection, which will be displayed in an immersive and vibrant environment conceived by local designer Gabriella Marcella, features folk art, textiles and contemporary works alongside unique artefacts. It will be shown alongside classic South Asian art from Glasgow Museums’ existing collection. The Tramway will also host a variety of family days, practical workshops, film performances and weekend tours inspired by the new exhibition to mark its launch.

7 Weirfest

Held in the breath-taking surroundings of Loch Lomond, Weirfest celebrates the life of Scotland’s much-loved broadcaster and mountain man, Tom Weir. Over 50 musicians, including Dave Arcari, Jimmie MacGregor and the Loch Lomond Ukulele Orchestra, will perform at Scotland’s Red Toorie Hat Festival, which has been organised by the Tom Weir Memorial Group in association with Friends of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs. There will also be woodcraft demonstrations, wildlife and toorie hat competitions and treasure trails.

8 Insane Championship Wrestling

Insane Championship Wrestling returns to Glasgow this weekend and it’s not for the faint hearted.

Offering fans a gritty, funnier alternative to the family-friendly WWE, this show is for hardcore wrestling fans who are not fazed by the use of baseball bats, staple guns and thumbtacks as weapons during bouts. You’ll also get the chance to catch some of the brand’s most popular stars, including Grado, Drew Galloway, Damo and Chris Renfrew at the show, which features over 30 ICW wrestlers.

The team will perform at the SSE Hydro on November 20 but, if you want to see them in a more intimate setting, then this is the show for you.

9 Edinburgh canal festival and raft race

Combining music, food and boats, the Edinburgh Canal Festival is perfect for anyone who wants to enjoy a fun day by the water. The action-packed family day combines raft racing with live music, food, games and drink. Twenty four team will show off their paddling prowess and floating masterpieces during the raft race. The event also includes canoe taster sessions, free boat trips, the Power of Food Festival, an international rescue display and activities run by Brewing Heritage Scotland and Edinburgh Printmakers.

10 Classic car show

Milngavie Precinct, Milngavie, June 18

Petrolheads will be able to feast their eyes on some classic vintage cars this weekend. Milngavie’s precinct will be filled with a range of classic and vintage models dating as far back as the 1930s. Market stalls, music and entertainment will also be on offer for those with less of a penchant for motors.

11 Eddie Izzard: Force Majeure 333

Frequently called one of the best stand-ups of his generation, Eddie Izzard brings his unique brand of whimsy to Glasgow this weekend.

The comedy star will perform Force Majeure 333, his first new show in four years, three times over three hours in English, French and German at The Stand. He debuted his 333 shows in Caen, Normandy on June 6 2014 for the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

The show is being performed in support of the ‘Stronger in Europe’ campaign.
