THE GRIEF-stricken mum of murdered Mark Cummings said she will never recover the memories of her dead son after she was attacked and left with a brain injury.

Margaret-Ann Cummings, whose son Mark was murdered by paedophile Stuart Leggate in 2004, is reported to have received the news about her brain injury 15 months after she was attacked in Glasgow.

Mark, 8, was sexually assaulted by Leggate before he was strangled, and thrown down a bin chute at flats on Charles Street, Royston 12 years ago.

Murderer Leggate received a minimum of 20 years behind bars after pleading guilty to the killing.

Margaret-Ann is reported to have been told she will never recover the memories of her dead son following an attack which left her with a brain bleed and fractured neck.

She was set upon last year outside a pub in the Gallowgate, with her attacker punching her in the face and smashing her head off a car, it is understood.

She told the Scottish Sun: " I feel like I have been cheated out of grieving for my son.

" I've always clung to the hope my memories would return but apparently if they're not back now they never will be."
