Former Rangers star Paul Gascoigne is to stand trial accused of allegedly making a joke about a black bouncer.

This morning Gazza pleaded not guilty to a racially aggravated offence when he appeared before Dudley magistrates court.

Police received a complaint after a show at Wolverhampton Civic Centre and investigated the former England, Newcastle, Spurs and Everton star.

‘An Evening With Paul Gascoigne’ was performed in theatres across the country and saw fans given the opportunity to put questions to the former player as he discussed everything from his time at Ibrox, World Cup 1990, Euro ‘96 and his struggles with alcohol.

District Judge Graham Wilkinson released the 49-year-old on unconditional bail.

He is set to return to court in September, when the trial is due to begin.
