ALEX Ross Perry made a splash with his 2014 sleeper comedy drama hit, Listen Up Philip, starring Jason Schwartzman as an angry young novelist. Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss (Peggy Olson) starred in that picture, and returns in Queen of Earth. The tale of a fractured female friendship and an unravelling mind, this psychological thriller is a very different kettle of sardines from Listen Up Philip, but it still boasts Perry’s razor sharp dialogue skills. No-one does brattish fury quite like him. There’s also a cracking performance from Moss as a woman on the edge of she knows not what.

HERE’S the latest attempt at finding a winning formula for a movie double act, and it’s a decidedly more miss than hit affair. Yes, there’s a certain amusement value to be had from watching Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson playing a high school nerd turned super cool agent, and Kevin Hart as the nervy accountant who is roped into shenanigans beyond his imaginings. But no matter how personable the performers, and these two have a spark, there still needs to be a smart, funny, script to hold this kind of carry on together. That, though, is missing in action, leaving behind a not very clever caper, floundering.
