TONIGHT British viewers will find a large Game of Thrones-shaped hole in their viewing schedule. 

With a return to Westeros and the accompanying violence, nudity and dragons not expected until late Spring next year, we've taken a look at some of the top programmes you can turn to instead.

Peaky Blinders

Set in the lawless streets of Birmingham in the 1920s, this television crime drama depicts the lives and loves of the Shelby clan, a family who run the most feared and powerful local gang, the Peaky Blinders.

Originally named for their practice of sewing razor blades into the peaks of their caps, they make money from illegal betting, protection and the black market, the show features the talents of Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy. Cath it on Netflix.

Orange Is The New Black 

This American comedy drama series revolves around Piper Chapman, a woman in her 30s living in New York City, who is sentenced to 15 months in Litchfield Penitentiary, a minimum-security women's federal prison in upstate New York.

Imprisoned for transporting drug money in her wild past, Chapman is ripped away from her quiet, law-abiding life among New York's upper middle class. Based on Piper Kerman's memoir of the same name, you can catch it on Netflix. 

The Herald:

Master of None 

This US comedy-drama television series documents the life of an Asian-American actor making his way through the Big Apple. Created by Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang, it stars Ansari in the lead role of Dev. 

Supremely funny and often heart-warming, the show eschews the laugh-track of a traditional sitcom for a more realistic take on life. You can catch it on Netflix.

The Man In The High Castle 

A dystopian alternative history television series based loosely on the Philip K. Dick novel of the same name, this Amazon Prime series is set in a world in which the Axis powers won World War II.

A conquered United States has been divided into three parts: The Japanese puppet state Japanese Pacific States, which comprises the former United States west of the Rocky Mountains; a Nazi puppet state that comprises the eastern half of the former United States; and a neutral zone that acts as a bufferbetween the two areas, called the Neutral Zone.

It's proven a favourite amongst fans and critics alike, and is a chilling insight into what may have befallen the planet if World War II had been lost.

House of Cards 

Quite possibly the only show here that has intro music that rivals Game of Thrones, this television masterpiece follows the rise of Machiavellian American politician Frank Underwood as he claws his way to the top. 

Arguably the finest show Netflix has ever produced, it's a must-watch for fans of political drama.
