SUBWAY passengers have slammed a replacement bus service they say is ineffective.
Trains are stopped from July 1 until August 1 while upgrade works are carried out and buses are covering the route.
But commuters claim drivers do not know correct policy on tickets, buses are skipping stops and services are not running at the promised 10 minute intervals.
And they say SPT must fix the problems to prevent a month of travel chaos.
One regular Subway user, who asked not to be named, said he had used the new service at the weekend and saw buses ignoring stops.
The 43-year-old said: "On Saturday I saw two buses running past the stops for the service despite passengers waiting - unless someone puts a hand out there is no way they are stopping.
"The buses are holding up other traffic, particularly at the very busy bus stop at the corner of Argyle Street and Buchanan Street.
"The replacement bus service uses an exact fare system, despite one of the benefits of the Subway being that it gives change.
"We are in tourist season and many visitors use the Subway - this is going to be difficult and confusing for people new to the city.
"You can expect that there would be teething troubles but the way this has been set up is totally bewildering.
"I certainly hope these issues will be quickly resolved."
Passengers have also complained that the replacement bus stop at Partick is not leaving from the bus stops immediately outside the travel hub but are going from Dumbarton Road - some 100 yards away.
Another commuter, who asked not to be named, said she has an annual season ticket and uses the Subway daily.
The 34-year-old said: "I want to use the replacement service since I've paid for a season ticket and the regular buses are so expensive but it's going to add hours on to my weekly travel time.
"I waited 15 minute for a bus this morning, which isn't great given they're meant to be every 10.
"The journey from Govan to Partick alone takes 10 minutes, which is usually how long it takes for me to travel all six stops."
The upgrading work will be carried out at a section of the network which connects the surface depot at Broomloan with the tunnels.
It was installed 40 years ago and needs to be fully replaced to ensure the service is reliable for future operations.
An SPT spokeswoman said: “We apologise to all passengers who have been inconvenienced and whose normal routine has been disrupted.
"Journey times on the Subway are unrivalled but bus services can be disrupted due to congestion on the city streets.
"This was particularly evident on Saturday when there were a number of parades across the city and any delays were outwith our control.
“The bus service is operating an exact fare system to speed up boarding times and we have reduced the fare to £1 adult single and £2 adult return to make this as easy as possible.
“We are working to rectify specific problems that passengers have raised and will be deploying more staff on the ground to assist passengers.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
