A RUTHERGLEN man has taken the expression all the world's a stage a bit too far after settling in on the street to watch an alleged police incident. 

In a snap shared widely on social media, a man relaxes in an easychair discarded on the pavement, apparently watching police proceedings.

Community Facebook page The Glasgow Gospel posted the image with the caption: "Just a guy sitting on a couch with his feet up watching an army of police trying to deal with a massive bottle fight outside the off sales. Average Monday on Rutherglen Main Street."

The tongue in cheek message has struck a chord online, with thousands liking and sharing the post.

Shirley Reddington hearkened back to a more innocent age of garbage disposal, commenting: "Fond memories of similar (without the police though or the fight) happening when someone put their couch out when we were kids."

Gangster classic The Untouchables was paraphrased by Sean Mac Cormaic, who wrote: "Never bring a couch to a bottle fight."

In any case, it looks like the chair is on its way to becoming something of a local fixture.
