POLICE searching for a missing fisherman have recovered a body from a river.

Divers from Police Scotland's marine unit found the man's body on Thursday morning in the area of The Caul, in the River Nith, Dumfries.

The body has not yet been formally identified but the relatives of missing Charles Mellor have been informed, police said.

Mr Mellor, 57, from College Street in Dumfries, was reported missing on Saturday July 9.

He had failed to return home after going fishing the previous evening close to the Carnation Factory.
