Yesterday Scots enjoyed a Mediterranean heatwave as temperatures soared to 27C in the city.

But this morning commuters were brought crashing back down to earth with a downpour and thunderstorm during rush hour.

The Met Office predicted thunder, lighting strikes on power transmitters, hail, gusty winds, flash floods, river flooding, property flooding, surface water and slippery roads as heavy rain sweeps in from the early hours of Wednesday.

Those travelling to work in Glasgow city centre battled heavy rain, flash flooding and darkened skies as the storm gathered.

A yellow weather warning is in place until 9pm tonight, with commuters being asked to be aware of flash flooding and traffic disruptions.
