Krispy Kreme unveiled their new Glasgow store to the public this morning.

The branch in Buchanan Galleries is the second store the American doughnut manufacture has opened in the city, following the launch of their Hotlight store in Braehead last year.

One dedicated fan who had queued outside Buchanan Galleries from five o’clock on Thursday morning was rewarded with the much coveted Gold Card entitling them to a year's supply of doughnuts.

Leia Morrison, 23, from Dennistoun was first in line when the ribbon was cut this morning.

“I got here about 5.20am because I really love Krispy Kreme", she explained.

"They don’t taste like any other doughnut- they always taste fresh and there’s hundreds of different kinds to chose from.

“I didn’t know that I would be getting a Gold Card so it’s a nice reward. My family and friends think I‘m mad - and so do I a little bit!”

The first dozen attendees were rewarded with a Krispy Kreme goody bag complete with a mug, sunglasses and t-shirt.

Around 40 jobs were created ahead of its opening, with even more up for grabs when the Silverburn and Central Station branches are launched next month.

Neil Williamson, operations director, said: “We’re all very excited about the opening. Since opening in Braehead we’ve been actively working to find sites in Glasgow.

“The public told us they would really like to see us in the City Centre so here we are in Buchanan Galleries.”

Staff treated their first customers to a performance of “the doughnut dance”, which sees them dancing their way through the steps required to make the perfect Krispy Kreme product, before the giant ribbon was cut and fans were able to get their hands on some doughnuts.

The next Krispy Kreme store will be opening in Silverburn shopping centre on Monday 8 August and in Glasgow Central Station on 11 August.
