Michelle Obama revealed her fun side as she joined James Corden for his popular Carpool Karaoke segment during Wednesday night’s episode of The Late Late Show.

The US First Lady and the British TV presenter sat side by side in the car as they sang Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours and Beyonce’s Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).

They were later joined by surprise guest Missy Elliott, who remained on the back seat for a rendition of “girl power anthem” This Is For My Girls.

As well as Elliott, music stars Kelly Clarkson, Janelle Monae, Kelly Rowland, Lea Michele and Zendaya all feature in the track, penned by Grammy-winner Diane Warren.

It was produced by AOL’s Makers, a women’s leadership platform, and was released in March after Michelle spoke at the South By Southwest festival in Texas.

It benefits Let Girls Learn, an initiative launched last year by the First Lady and President Barack Obama to address the barriers that keep more than 62 million girls around the world out of school.

Michelle discussed the scheme with James, and her hopes of highlighting to young people in America the need to help those less fortunate.

She said: “My message for kids here is don’t take your education for granted. There are girls around the world who would die to get the education you have, they would do anything, they would move mountains.”

She explained that she had signed up to social networking app Snapchat so she could “hook” younger people into her work on the cause.

The clip also included Michelle and James rapping rather excellently along to Elliott’s 2001 hit Get Ur Freak On.

The Carpool Karaoke segment was filmed last month at the White House, where Michelle and James remained on the driveway at the request of security.

Stars including Adele, Sir Rod Stewart, Sir Elton John, Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez and One Direction have appeared on the always-amusing Carpool Karaoke.
