TRAINSPOTTERS will be out in their droves in Pitlochry this weekend as a massive collection of second-hand railway books go on sale for charity.

Pitlochry Festival Theatre will host the event which gives enthusiasts the chance to snap up some 400 books on British and foreign railway history from as little as £5.

The collection was donated to the volunteer-run Pitlochry Station Bookstop by the family of a Perthshire railway lover who died earlier this year.

Funds from the sale are benefit Cancer Research UK, the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS), Highland Perthshire Shopmobility, Mercy Corps, Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance and Tayside Mountain Rescue Team.

Among the volumes on offer is a 1958 'Locospotters' Annual', originally price six shillings and sixpence, and titles ranging from 'How to Drive a Steam Locomotive' to 'Along Branch Lines'.

The title showcase the history, nostalgia and photographs from a bygone era.

One of the organisers, Brian Toner, said: “We are expecting a lot of people to be there as we have been advertising far and wide.”
