A family of ostriches are on the loose in an East Ayrshire village.

The Scottish SPCA said they have been several sighting of the adult bird in Patna and has issued a warning to members of the public.

The charity warned residents not to approch the adult ostrich which will be aggressive if it believes it is being challenged over the protection of it's young.

It is currently unknown where the ostriches came from.

Animal Rescue Officer Alistair Hill said: "Anyone in the area who spots the ostrich or its young should call us as soon as possible on 03000 999 999 so we can keep an eye on where these birds are.

"We are warning members of the public not to approach the adult ostrich and to especially avoid approaching its young as ostriches can be very protective and can become extremely aggressive."
