JUST as well Zac Efron and Adam DeVine, the titular Mike and Dave, are such likeable sorts, as they get up to some pretty gross things in a comedy that sets out to appal as well as amuse. Ordered to find dates for their sister’s wedding, the riotous Stangle brothers meet a couple of pals (Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick) who seem like perfect ladies, but are they Mary Poppins or are they merry hell-raisers? You can probably guess the answer. All four leads are good value, with Plaza the standout, and amid the crassness and lesson learning there are plenty of smart lines.

IF Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman’s thriller was any more up to the minute in theme it would come with a use-by date. In NYC, all the hip kids are either playing Nerve, a new video game based on truth or dare, or watching those who are. The prize? Becoming “insta famous” and winning cash. Vee and Ian (Emma Roberts and Dave Franco) opt to be players, only to find it’s not all fun and games. Nerve loses its way towards the end, but it’s slickly done, inventive, and will press all the right keys for its teen and twentysomething target audience.
