A star of the Yes for independence movement has been invited to speak at an ‘alternative’ Labour conference endorsed by Jeremy Corbyn.

Cat Boyd stood against Labour as a Rise candidate at this year's Holyrood elections.

She will appear at ‘The World Transformed’, which has infuriated Labour MPs by announcing plans to run in parallel to the party's annual conference in Liverpool.

The event has been organised by Momentum, the controversial pro-Corbyn left-wing group some Labour MPs claim is trying to be a ‘party within a party’

Also attending will be Mr Corbyn, who recently released a promotional video for the 4-day gathering.

Labour sources north of the Border reacted angrily to the news that Ms Boyd would be one of the speakers.

A Scottish Labour source said: "It is bad enough that Jeremy Corbyn is supporting a rival conference at the same time as our annual conference, but inviting our political opponents to share a platform is completely unacceptable.

“Cat Boyd and Rise stood against Labour Party candidates this year and campaigned against us. Labour activists in Scotland will be baffled that Momentum see our opponents as allies. Coming so soon after (new shadow Scottish Secretary) Dave Anderson's comments about doing a deal with the SNP, this shows that Jeremy Corbyn and his allies have no idea how to effectively build a strong Labour Party in Scotland."

Organisers have been forced to deny that the event is a rival to Labour's official conference.

Instead, they say that it should be viewed as the "fringe" of the larger meeting.

Open to non-Labour members r ‘The World Transformed’ has also reignited the row over allegations of Trotskyist 'entryism'.

Also speaking will be three close political allies of Mr Corbyn, the shadow chancellor John McDonnell, shadow health secretary Diane Abbott and shadow defence secretary Clive Lewis, the film director Ken Loach as well as activists and trade unionists.

In his video, Mr Corbyn said: I’m going to be there, because I want to see a world transformed.”

“All those people, with all those ideas, ambitions and energy, are going to be there as well. Come along and join us – you’ll have a great experience. Doing things together benefits us all, educates us all, makes us strong, and does change the world”.

Earlier this week Ms Boyd wrote if “you’re a Scottish Labour member backing Corbyn, I’m on your side”.

She also praised Momentum, saying it had reinvigorated English politics “with the energy of protest in a manner that’s uncannily similar to Scotland in 2014”.

She rejected claims of “Trotskyists” and said that most members were “articulate young people, who, if anything, used to belong to or vote for the Green Party and have embraced the more radical, more working class and better-resourced message of Corbynism instead”.

Meanwhile, the GMB union warned that Labour's official conference could have to be cancelled amid an ongoing row about union recognition by security firms.
