Electronic duo Chase & Status have kicked off Mobo fever as the first act announced on this year’s awards ceremony bill.

The Mobo Awards, which celebrates the UK’s urban music and culture scene, is heading to Glasgow for its 21st birthday this year and will take place at The SSE Hydro Arena.

First Mobos 2016 booking Chase & Status, known for their track Blind Faith, said: “The Mobos are a real institution and we’re looking forward to bringing our live show and some very special guests to the stage.”

Recently, they announced a UK tour for 2016 that will begin on November 19, after the Mobo Awards on November 4.

Founder and CEO of the Mobo Organisation Kanya King MBE said: “This is only the beginning of our 21st anniversary celebration – we are preparing for a most memorable evening with the best talent and inspirational guests to continue our work started 21 years ago supporting diversity and inclusion. We have some great new initiatives on the way; it’s all very exciting.”

This is the fourth time the Mobos has been to Glasgow, making a first visit to Scotland in 2009. The Mobo Awards 2016 is supported by EventScotland, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, the Scottish Government and Scottish Enterprise.

Head of major events at Glasgow City Marketing Bureau Joe Aitken said: “Glasgow enjoys an enviable reputation as a world-class music destination and we’ve become Mobo’s home-from-home. Today’s exciting announcement takes us another step closer to welcoming some of the biggest names in urban music back to the city for what will be a fantastic 21st birthday party for Mobo in our phenomenal SSE Hydro arena.”
