A plane bound for Canada was forced to return to Glasgow Airport after declaring a mid-air emergency.

The Air Transat flight TS183 performed a U-turn over Ireland shortly after taking off from Glasgow on Friday afternoon.

It has been reported a technical issue was detected on the Airbus A310, which departed just before 1pm.

The plane landed without incident at around 2pm and was met by emergency services on the runway.

The cause of the technical issue has not yet been identified.

No other flights are believed to have been affected by the emergency landing.
