A SECURITY guard who shot an intruder who was trying to break into supermodel Miranda Kerr's Los Angeles mansion was stabbed in the eye during the altercation.

Police were called to Kerr's Malibu's home after a "physical altercation" between the armed guard and the burglar on Friday.

The incident happened at 11.10am local time (7.10pm UK-time).

Kerr's security guard reportedly fired a number of shots at the intruder, including one which struck the man in the face, while the guard was stabbed in the eye.

Police said that both the security guard and the intruder had been taken to hospital. The intruder was said to have non-life threatening injuries and the guard was in a stable condition last night.

The security guard had confronted the man as he was trying to climb a fence to gain access to the property.

Kerr, 33, who lives at the property with her five-year-old son, Flynn, was not at home.

In a statement Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said: "There were no occupants in the house at the time of this incident.

"The incident took place on the property, but not inside the house."

A spokesman for the department added: "Deputies responded to a 'shots fired' call in Malibu. They discovered a security guard had been involved in a physical altercation with an intruder.

"The guard was stabbed in the facial injury and he had minor injuries. He produced a handgun and shot the intruder three to four times in the face and torso."

Neighbour Craig Moore told local media that he was shocked by the incident.

Moore said: "It's kind of a crazy thing to happen out here in Malibu. I guess it happens everywhere but we just don't ever have it happen in our neighbourhood."

It was reportedly the second time in a week police had responded to an intruder call at the house in Malibu.

Kerr, who is now engaged to Snapchat mogul Evan Spiegler, bought the mansion in 2014 with ex-husband, British actor Orlando Bloom.

The property was photographed for the September issue of Harper's Bazaar.
