A GEORGIAN mansion with seven bedrooms and eight acres is up for grabs for £300,000 – following a £500,000 reduction in the asking price.
The 222-year-old B-listed property has been empty for four years and needs about £100,000 to bring it back up to standard.
But even a £400,000 bill would make the stunning home about the same price as a four- bedroomed house in Edinburgh.
Milton House, near Dumbarton, was put on the market in 2012 with a price tag of £800,000.
But after failing to sell and then being repossessed, the property has just been put back on the market at just over a third of the original price.
The mansion, built in 1794 for the manager of the nearby mill, which gave the area its name, was once described as “like a pink doll’s house, overlooking the Clyde”.
Milton House, which has drawn praise for its symmetrical structure and classical features, is one of a tiny number of Georgian mansions on the historic river.
Sellers Caledonia Bureau describe Milton House as “a category B listed Georgian mansion...situated within it own private woodlands with sloping driveway”.
Set over four floors, the house retains many of its original period features with the entrance leading to reception hallway and drawing room.
An elegant Georgian stone staircase leads to the first floor landing where the master bedroom, a dressing room/bedroom, guest bedroom, two bathrooms are and a further three bedroom are on the second floor.
The house is surrounded by a variety of exotic plants which were collected by the previous owners who took several trips to China and the Himalayas, collecting rare and interesting trees.
The stunning mature gardens which have been developed over the last century include an outstanding collection of rhododendrons, azaleas and eucryphias.
Scott Caldow, of Caledonia Bureau said: “It a damn shame, and The fear is we’re not going to find someone to take it on. It will need at least £85,000 put into it.”
