A TEENAGE woman and a man have been arrested in connection with the death of a baby girl following an incident at a homeless families unit almost four months ago.

The 18-year-old woman along with a 21-year-old man have been held over the death of three-month-old Sophia Williams. Sophia died on June 5 at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh after taking ill at the Strathbrock family unit in Broxburn, West Lothian.

They are due to appear at Livingston Sheriff Court today.

Detective Inspector Rory Hamilton of the Major Investigations Team (MIT) said: “An 18-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the death of a three-month-old baby girl from Broxburn.

“Sophia Williams passed away on Sunday, June 5th, 2016, within the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh. A subsequent investigation was launched into her death and as a result of this effort two people have been charged.”

The unit is place of safety for vulnerable families, who are monitored by staff.
