Ewan McGregor has accused Boris Johnson of offering an 'impossible vision' for Brexit.

The Scots star, who has been vocal in his opposition to Brexit, tweeted: "Boris Johnson continues to talk out of his a**e, offering 'impossible' Brexit vision."

His post was accompanied by a link to an article where Dutch finance minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem claimed the vision of life outside the EU that Mr Johnson was offering Britain was 'intellectually impossible'.

The article claimed that the Tory MP told a Czech newspaper that Britain would want to continue to trade freely in Europe but was likely to leave the EU customs union.

Mr Dijsselbloem, who is also president of Eurogroup, said Mr Johnson's option 'doesn't exist' and was 'impossible'.

He told BBC's Newsnight: "He's saying things that are intellectually impossible, politically unavailable, so I think he's not offering the British people a fair view of what is available and what can be achieve in these negotiations."

Number 10 has said that a decision on membership of the customs union has not been made yet.

Last month, Mr McGregor said that he was 'totally confused' about Scottish independence following Brexit.

The Crieff-born actor said: "The truth is I didn't want Scotland to be independent in 2014. I didn't understand how it was going to work.

"Then Brexit happened. Now I'm totally confused."

Last month the High Court ruled that the UK Government could not trigger Article 50 until MPs were given a vote on Brexit.

The Scottish Government has said it will 'actively consider' if Holyrood should become involved in the case after the UK Government vowed to appeal the ruling.
