Detectives investigating the murder of a man on New Year's Day are trying to trace the owner of a car parked near the area.

Cameron Logan, 23, had returned from celebrating the new year with his girlfriend Rebbeca Williams when they returned to his family home in Achray Place, Milngavie in the early hours of Sunday.

A murder probe was launched after police determined the fire was started deliberately at the property at around 7.25am.

Police are keen to trace the owner of a dark vehicle which was seen in a lay-by on Craigton Road, near Clober Golf Club, around the same time as the murder.

It has been described as having its engine running at the time.

Extensive searches are being carried in areas close to Archay Place.

A park near the Logans' home is also being searched.

Rebecca Williams, 24, known as Bex, a journalist at Global Radio, was seriously injured and remains in the Queen Elizabeth Univeristy Hospital where her condition has been described as critical.

Mr Logan's parents, both 54, were treated for smoke inhalation and later released from hospital.

The family dog, Gomez, also died in the fire.

Police have appealed to the public for help with their enquiries.

Officers also want to hear from any dog walkers or joggers who may have been in the area early on New Year's Day.

Detective Chief Inspector Bob Frew said: ''I would appeal to them or indeed anyone who was near Achray Place who saw activity at the house prior to or after the fire to contact police.

''Information can be passed to the Major Investigation Team based at Govan Police Office via 101 or alternatively, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given in confidence.''
