OFFICIALS are investigating after a court’s speakers began relaying Radio 5 Live during hearings.
Interference began cutting in and out during custody hearings at Falkirk Sheriff Court yesterday.
At one point pundits on the BBC station could be heard animatedly discussing the previous night’s English Premier League game, when Tottenham beat Chelsea 2-0 at White Hart Lane.Sheriff Mark Thorley, presiding, either ignored or did not hear the football chat that was being broadcast to the public benches while he dealt with a small-time shoplifting drug dealer.
An insider said: “It was fairly quiet, so it didn’t really interrupt the court, but you could clearly hear what was coming over, and it wasn’t a defence lawyer’s speech in mitigation.”
A Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service spokesman said: “The sound that came through the speakers was very faint and inaudible to most of the court. Proceedings were not disrupted. The cause of the incident is being investigated.”
