TWO floors in a multistorey car park which is slated for demolition have collapsed.

A loud bang was heard as the area, which had been sealed off to the public, collapsed at the St James Centre in Edinburgh yesterday. No-one was injured as the rubble fell into an area tghat was restricted to trained demolition staff.

The centre is to be replaced with a new retail and office space.

A spokesman for contractors Laing O’Rourke said: “During demolition of the multistorey car park today, two floors of two structural bays collapsed into the demolition exclusion zone.”
