THOUSANDS of people have taken to the streets of Edinburgh in protest at the inauguration of Donald Trump as US President.

At least 2000 people, mainly women, have gathered outside the American consulate in the capital to object to the alleged sexism, homophobia and racism of the businessman-turned-leader of the free world.

Regent Road has been closed to traffic by police supervising the protest.
