The protests sparked by the anger directed towards Donald Trump succeeded in reaching the furthest corners of the globe and all seven continents, with a protest held in Antarctica.

Around 30 women and men assembled on an expedition ship in remote Paradise Bay in Antarctica and brandished banners proclaiming ‘Penguins for Peace’ and ‘Seals for Science’ to show solidarity for the women’s march demonstrations.

It was just one of hundreds of ‘sister’ demonstrations taking place around the globe. In Australia several thousand joined a rally in central Sydney, with a similar number in Melbourne.

Mindy Freiband, co-founder of Women’s March Sydney told the crowd: "Hatred, hate speech, bigotry, discrimination, prejudicial policies - these are not American problems, these are global problems."

Protests also took place in New Zealand and Japan, as well as Asian cities such as Bangkok.

Barcelona, Rome, Amsterdam, Geneva, Budapest, Prague and Berlin were among European cities holding rallies.

In Prague, hundreds gathered in Wenceslas Square in freezing weather, waving portraits of Trump and Russia's Vladimir Putin and holding banners which read "This is just the beginning," ''Kindness" and "Love".

In Copenhagen, march organiser Lesley-Ann Brown said: "Nationalist, racist and misogynistic trends are growing worldwide and threaten the most marginalised groups in our societies, including women, people of colour, immigrants, Muslims, the LGBT community and people with disabilities."

American expatriate Bill Scholer, protesting in Tokyo, said: "Everything we value could be gone. It's time to speak your mind and concerns and to do our best to salvage the values we cherish in America."

A march was also held in Nairobi, Kenya, the home country of former President Barack Obama’s father, while other African nations to stage demonstrations includes Ghana and Malawi.

Meanwhile marchers in Cape Town carried placards with slogans such as “so over mediocre men running things”.

Not all the protests were specifically about Trump - in South America, demonstrations took place focused on violence against women.
