Glasgow is to host this year's BBC 6 Music festival, the Sunday Herald has learned, writes Andrew Learmonth.

The location of the annual concert wasn’t supposed to be revealed until Tuesday, but news has leaked out early, with the city’s venues and musicians buzzing at the prospect.

It's not known which acts have been booked to perform. More than 50 acts took part in last year’s two day festival in Bristol, including Primal Scream, Underworld, Foals, Suede, Laura Marling, Roots Manuva, Savages, and the Buzzcocks.

It’s a major event for the BBC, with the station decamping from Manchester and London to come to Glasgow and taking over the city’s venues.

In 2014, the city played host to BBC Radio One’s Big Weekend with One Direction, Katy Perry and Tinie Tempah all headlining.

The BBC would only say: “Tune in to Lauren Laverne's show on BBC Radio 6 Music on Tuesday from 10am to find out which city will be hosting this year's 6 Music Festival, and which acts will be performing.”
