A gang has stolen a "significant" sum of cash after breaking into an elderly couple's home.

The victims are said to have been left highly distressed by the daylight incident at their Paisleyhouse on Wednesday.

The group of men forced entry to the Huntly Terrace property at around 1pm and made off with the money.

The amount involved is understood to be a high four-figure sum.

Detectives are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The suspects are described as being between 20 and 30 years old and were all wearing dark clothing.

Detective Constable John Sharkey, of Paisley CID, said: "This group of men broke into a house and stole a significant quantity of cash and the owners have been left very distressed by this incident.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the surrounding area on Wednesday lunchtime and may have seen a group of men matching the above description, or anything suspicious, to get in touch."

Paisley CID can be contacted via the 101 number, while Crimestoppers can be reached on 0800 555 111, where details can be given in confidence.
