A HELENSBURGH-based travel agent is celebrating after winning a top industry award for the second year running.
John Spy, who runs his own business as part of leading independent travel company Travel Counsellors, won Top Homeworking Agency in the UK and Ireland, having been awarded the accolade for the first time in 2016.
The company was given the honour at the Travel Trade Gazette’s (TTG) Top 50 awards, held at Birmingham’s Vox Centre on Monday, March 13.
John said: “I’m so proud that we have won this award and want to thank all my fantastic customers for helping to make this possible!
"My business model is based around putting my customers first in everything I do – that’s the beauty of being an independent tour operator as I can offer the customer the holiday that’s right for them every time and create very special, one-off itineraries.
"As I run my business from home it also helps me to provide a really flexible service that means I am available to my customers at a time to suit them.
“I’m delighted that the unique customer experience I provide has been recognised in this way, and I look forward to another great year as a travel counsellor.”
John has 15 years of travel industry experience and started his business as a travel counsellor in 2006 and since then his business has gone from strength to strength.
TTG managing director Daniel Pearce said: “We launched the TTG Top 50 Travel Agencies to find the best travel sellers in the country – and there is no doubt that Travel Counsellors is a more-than-worthy winner for the second year running.
“The Top Homeworking Agency was a very hotly contested category, and it was a pleasure to be able to present the award to such a vibrant, energetic and forward thinking business as Travel Counsellors.”

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
