Police armed with taser guns will be on patrol outside the Scottish Parliament in an extra security measure following the attack at Westminster last week.

Officers will be in place outside Holyrood from today as security is stepped up around the parliament.

Police said the move is not based on any operational intelligence threat and a full review of the Parliament’s security arrangements will be undertaken.

Paul Grice, Scottish Parliament, chief executive, said: “Police Scotland has assured us that the move is an operational contingency measure and is not based on any intelligence threat in relation to the Parliament or Scotland.

“Following on from the Westminster attack, Police Scotland will undertake a review of its security arrangements at Holyrood. The results of that review will be reported to the SPCB for its consideration.”
