CAMERAS could soon be rolling on a vast film studio complex on the outskirts of Edinburgh after the development was given the green light after months of wrangling.
Scottish Government ministers overturned a recommendation from their own official and the local council calling for the £250 million scheme to be thrown out, with the the long-term benefits judged to outweigh the costs.
More than 1,600 jobs are expected to be created by the Pentland Studios project, which is earmarked for green-belt land at Straiton in Midlothian.
It is hoped work will begin in months on the project, with the first studio facilities planned to be operational by the end of next year.
A spokesman for PSL Land Ltd, the company behind the scheme, said: “We are very pleased with the decision by ministers to approve the grant of planning permission in principle and will be moving forward immediately with the application.”
