SCOTRAIL have said that commuters can seek compensation after a points failure sparked morning rush hour delays and disruption between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Trains were running up to half an hour late on Scotland's busiest route following the equipment breakdown on Wednesday at Newbridge junction, to the west of the capital.

Later on, customers were advised to take use their ticket to take buses after a similar failure between Edinburgh and Tweedbank in the afternoon.

A ScotRail Alliance spokesperson said: “To ensure everyone got where they needed to be, we ordered replacement buses and arranged for other transport operators to accept rail tickets.

“Customers who were delayed 30 minutes or more should keep hold of their tickets and claim compensation under our Delay Repay scheme.”
