Partick Thistle boss Alan Archibald is rumoured to be on a short-list of candidates for the vacant manager’s job at Swindon Town.

The Wiltshire club, who will be playing in League Two next season following relegation at the end of a dismal campaign, sacked Luke Williams over the weekend and are now in the process of looking for a replacement.

Archibald, who was also tipped for the Shrewsbury Town post last season, continues to attract attention down south having guided Thistle to their highest top flight finish in 36 years.

Meanwhile, Jags ace Danny Devine is hoping he can take his lingering sense of injustice out on St Johnstone this weekend.

The 24-year-old is back in the Thistle squad following a suspension after being sent-off in the 2-2 draw with Hearts a fortnight ago.

Devine’s hand ball appeared highly debatable and it cost the Northern Irishman an appearance against Rangers last weekend.

He said: “I’m very keen to get back. It was hard missing out on the Rangers game because you always want to play in the big games.

“At the time of the sending off, you could see by my reaction that I felt hard done by. I still feel that way but hopefully we can get on with it this weekend and move on.”

After Saturday’s trip to Perth, Thistle will end the campaign with back-to-back home games against Scottish champions Celtic and Aberdeen.

Devine, whose former club Inverness are in dire straits at the bottom of the league, added: “I look at the table and it’s a relief that we are not down there with Inverness. I’m glad we are not fighting tooth and nail to stay in the league.

“I still have a lot of friends up there and hopefully they can get out of it. We have the peace of mind of being safe and we have the games against the best teams. Even though it’s coming to the end of the season you still want to test yourself and that’s the fortunate position we are in.”
