AMEC Foster Wheeler, the engineering giant which is being taken over by Aberdeen’s Wood Group, has sold a unit that makes boilers used in the power generating industry to Sumitomo Heavy Industries of Japan for $170 million (£135m). London-based Amec Foster Wheeler sold the circulating fluidised bed (CFB) boiler business under a plan to dispose of non core assets to cut debt. Chief executive Jon Lewis said the group had made significant progress with a transformation programme lunched last year.
