PRECIOUS? Moi? I note Andrew Reid's criticism (Letters, July 13) of my dislike of the appellation “Bonnie Prince Charlie”. Unfortunately, the printed version of my original letter (July 12) omitted my observation that the origin of this cute but demeaning nomenclature derives from the Anglophone pronunciation of (Prions/Prince) “Tearlach”, as he was to his Highland followers.

I have to accept that we are stuck with "Charlie" – he is worth billions to Scottish tourism – but ask only that he is respected more by giving him his proper name and title as much as possible.
