In writing about the unacceptable and vitriolic hatred of women being displayed online, Rebecca McQuillan referred to the mainstream media being "more careful than ever not to use gendered insults or imagery about political leaders" (Women on top: the truth about the sexist backlash, The big read, July 9).

It is then surely ironic that your choice of headline for the article, ie "women on top", leaves you open to accusations of trivialising the issue. Furthermore, the image you chose of Ruth Davidson stood out as being somewhat different in tone, to the images of the other nine women. Either you are being very careless or the Sunday Herald too is not immune from everyday sexism and misogyny.
