A FIRE has broken out in a nightclub in Edinburgh

The blaze erupted in the Opal Lounge, on George Street.

It is not known if anyone has been injured.

Four fire engines were sent to the scene to tackle the blaze, which is thought to broken out inside the premises.

George Street, a main thoroughfare, was closed off while the emergency services tackled the flames.

A spokeswoman for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said they were still in attendance at 10.30pm.

Lothian Buses said that some of its services were being diverted via Queen Street or Princes Street because of the road closure.
