HOLLYWOOD star Michael Sheen has given his backing to Edinburgh-based social enterprise Our Power after learning more about the energy company’s plan to eradicate fuel poverty on a visit to the company.

Social Enterprise UK and UNICEF ambassador, Mr Sheen, who is known for roles in Frost/Nixon, The Damned United and Twilight, has an active interest in community and social economy.

He is touring the UK to learn from social entrepreneurs, activists and policy makers and will take the findings back to Wales to enable partners to learn from Scotland’s success in working together on strategies and delivery.

Launched in 2015, Our Power is an energy supplier created by social housing providers to make energy fairer for all members of society.

It operates on a profit-for-purpose basis and is 100 per cent asset-locked, with all surpluses reinvested to benefit customers and their communities.

Formed of 53 housing associations and local authorities, Our Power offers one tariff irrespective of whether a customer pays via direct debit or on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Mr Sheen said Our Power’s plans were a “real inspiration”.
