A canal boat blocked a major road in the Highlands after slipping off an overturned trailer.

The barge brought traffic to a standstill on the A9 at Daviot near Inverness at about 1.20pm on Friday.

It came after a trailer carrying the vessel crashed, which resulted in the boat falling into the middle of the central reservation.

There were no injuries and no other vehicles involved.

Inverness is famous for being the eastern gateway of the Caledonian Canal.

Police have since been able to open a single lane on the southbound carriageway.
