Police in England are appealing for members of the public with mobile phone footage to come forward after Celtic and Sunderland fans brawled ahead of the Dafabet Cup clash at the weekend.

So far, a total of 21 arrests have been made, the majority of which were for being drunk and disorderly, breach of the peace, and the use of illegal pyrotechnics.

Officers also confirmed today that Glasgow teenager Kasey MacKinnon, 18, of Bondyke Street, has been charged with public order and criminal damage offences.

He is due to appear at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court on August 22.

Northumbria Police are particularly looking for footage of an incident outside Fletcher’s Off Licence in Hendon where ex-EDL leader Tommy Robinson was taking part in a book signing.

At around 1.40pm on Saturday, police in the city said they received a report of an incident outside the shop.

Damage was caused to the premises and an 18-year-old Hoops fan was taken to hospital with a serious head injury.

He was later discharged from hospital and police enquiries are still ongoing to determine the details of the incident.

Superintendent Paul Milner said the force knows people were in the area at the time and were filming the incident on their phones.

He added: “We are asking those people to get in contact.

“We’re carrying out enquiries to establish what happened and that footage could be vital in our investigation.”

Anyone with footage should contact Northumbria Police on 101 and ask to speak to Southern CID.

Sunderland played Celtic at the Stadium of Light on Saturday which saw the Hoops trounce the team 5-0.

It was a pre-season friendly that also celebrated 20 years since the Stadium of Light first opened its doors and 50 years since Celtic won the European Cup.
