Three prison officers were taken to hospital after inhaling second-hand smoke from legal high 'zombie spice'.

The three HMP Addiewell officers had entered a cell where the drug had been smoked.

They fell ill after being exposed to the drug and were taken to hospital.

Spice is a synthetic substitute for cannabis, described as a legal high.

An HMP Addiewell spokesman said: "We can confirm three staff were taken unwell while on duty on Saturday and taken to hospital by ambulance.

"We work closely with the police and NHS to tackle drugs, which are a challenge across the whole prison estate."
