AIRLINE Jet2.com has announced a new jobs boost for Scotland with posts being created at two major airports.

The firm said that it will create 200 new positions, split between Edinburgh and Glasgow airports.

Roles being advertised include pilots, cabin crew and ground operation staff, the airline said.

It is part of a recruitment drive across the UK, with the company hoping to fill 1,700 posts.

Jet2.com said it was hosting two recruitment roadshows in Scotland - one in Glasgow on 12 September and another in Edinburgh on 13 September.

They will be held at the Normandy Hotel in Glasgow and at the Holiday Inn in the capital.

The airline said it intended to continue to expand its operations across the UK this year, with a 13 per cent increase in capacity.

Steve Heapy, chief executive officer of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: "It has been an exciting year for Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, and we are delighted to be creating so many opportunities to join our award-winning teams at Glasgow and Edinburgh airports.

"If you care passionately about looking after customers, we would love to see you at one of our upcoming roadshows and we look forward to welcoming you on board."

The recruitment drive is the latest piece of good news for the airports, with Ryanair launching new, direct flights from Glasgow to Zadar, Croatia last month.

The first flight took off from Glasgow in the first week of July, with services running every monday and Friday.

Flights are already proving popular for Croatian tourists looking to explore Glasgow and beyond this summer.

Eastern Airways has also announced plans to establish a new base at Glasgow Airport and offer four daily flights to Manchester, one to Sumburgh and three to Stornoway.

The new plan is set to create a 'significant number of new jobs' including ground staff, cabin crew and pilots.

Increasing the number of flights from Glasgow Airport will cement its position as the UK's best connected airport for domestic services, with 27 direct flights across the UK.

Meanwhile, work has begun on an £80m expansion at Edinburgh Airport, following predictions of a big rise in passenger numbers.

A new three-storey extension will provide six more gates and more space for shops and customs and immigration when it is finished next summer.

Edinburgh Airport officials are expecting passenger numbers to go up by 16.5 million by 2021.

The expansion is part of the airport's £220m capital investment programme.

The extension will stretch from the existing gate 12 area, covering the old east end service yard, out to the Gogar Burn.
