REGARDING the admirable "moggy time" request (Letters, September 5) I sensed my late lamented large British Shorthair Lilac Point was turning in his woodland grave at the implied suggestion that moggies should dominate any feline correspondence. He managed to have two successive names during his 16 years, each formally adopted by vet and cattery as well as his large fan club.

Arriving as a young kitten named Jasper, after the playful stage he seldom condescended to acknowledge the humans he lived with, until suddenly several years later, he jumped onto the lap of a visiting friend aged 94, settled down and started to purr loudly. From that day onwards he was a friendly puss renamed Jaspurrrrr.
