Odsonne Edouard could be set to make his Celtic debut this evening against Hamilton Accies.

Leigh Griffiths will not feature after taking a kick to his calf while on international duty meaning that Edouard could make his first appearance since signing for the club on transfer deadline day on a season long loan from PSG.

“He’ll be in the squad, that’s for sure,” said Brendan Rodgers. “That’s the reason for bringing him in. And he has been playing and training, so he’s up to speed. It’s not as if he hasn’t been playing. So he’s available.

“He’s typical of the French recently. He’s come through their youth system and he is super-quick. He’s also strong and he has a good touch. He’s on the upward curve in his career.

“Time will tell. It is going to be about attitude and determination and personality. But, purely on talent, he is a big talent. He’s got great feel and great ability. And, like I say, he’s got that modern asset of sheer pace and power. He’s still young, so he’s got a lot to learn, but what a great place for him to come and learn.”

Meanwhile, Moussa Dembele could win his race for fitness ahead of Tuesday night’s game against PSG. The French striker has been sidelined since the end of July with a recurrence of a hamstring strain but could be set for a timely return.

Rodgers was insistent that the player will not be risked if there is any gamble to playing him, although Dembele himself will be itching to play against his fellow countrymen.

"He went to Clairfontaine in France for three weeks and done some great work out there with the medical team there, like he did here before he left,” said Rodgers.

"He is now back and we will assess him to see where he is at.

"The most important thing is we can't risk it.

"Of course everyone would love to be involved in the Paris game but if not then he is not going to be too far away from that and then he is still going to have an impact for the remainder of the Champions League campaign which is great news.

"But we have to be sure that he is right if he has any involvement in the game on Tuesday."

However, while Celtic’s striking issues are almost resolved there remains a defensive issue for the game against PSG.

Both Dedryck Boyata and Erik Sviatchenko remain injured, although both players are expected to resume training with the first-team on Sunday.

The former is set for a return earlier than Sviatchenko but for the visit of PSG it will be Jozo Simunovic, the only fit and natural central defender at the club, who partners either Mikael Lustig, Nir Bitton or Kristoffer Ajer.

Simunovic will play this evening against Hamilton in order to get him game time after he didn’t feature for Bosnia on international duty, and despite the lack of depth at the back ahead of a game against the world’s most expensive forward line, Rodgers has insisted that he will not approach the game against PSG with apprehension.

“Jozo is fit, Mikael Lustig can move inside and Tony Ralston is there with young Ajer,” he said. “That is what we are having to plan and map out. I wouldn’t say we are depleted but we are having to adjust for the first game.”
