Patrick Roberts needs to build up his match fitness as he looks to play catch-up with his Parkhead colleagues.

The winger has not played a full game since Celtic's triumph over Aberdeen at Hampden in May.

Roberts went through a pre-season with Manchester City but has not been exposed to much game time meaning that he will need to work on his fitness before emerging back onto the pitch at Celtic.

"His last 90 minutes was the Scottish Cup final," said Rodgers. " It seems ages ago now. But May 27 was the last time he played 90 minutes. But he looks fit and he has played in some games over the course of pre-season. He’s had a real good couple of weeks working, and then we’ll just stagger him into his game-time."

Meanwhile, the Hoops manager has decisions to make on his squad for tonight's game after a number of players returned from their international travels.

"They are all back now," said Rodgers. "When you consider the flights of the likes of Tom Rogic, Crissie Gamboa – he only arrived back early hours of the morning – and Oli N’tcham. So everyone is back in but we obviously have to assess what risk there is, these guys having played over the international period and the travelling they have done."

Whatever the personnel, Rodgers has no fears about his players looking towards next Tuesday's game against PSG rather than the game against Hamilton.

“I don’t think they will," he said. "We have always been pretty clear, our bread and butter is not looking too far in front of ourselves. We focus on playing well in the game in front of us.

“There are some brilliant games coming up but let’s start off how we mean to go on.

“Hamilton have made a nice little start, Martin Canning will be delighted with how they have gone. It’s on telly and they will want to show up well.

“We need to meet this challenge before we think about the next one.”
