FORMER Motherwell winger Dom Thomas knew it was time to move on when he came back after the summer and didn’t recognise anyone in the dressing room. The 21 year-old returns to Fir Park this afternoon with new side Kilmarnock after severing ties at the start of the season after six years. He admits it is a match he has been looking forward to since the fixtures came out but has no regrets about calling it day after realising he wasn’t going to figure in Steve Robinson’s plans.

He said: “The move to Kilmarnock has been great for me so far. I have no regrets as I had to do it.

"I am playing every week and hopefully I can keep that going. You kind of get the vibe that it isn't going to happen for you at a club.

"It was weird since I had been there for so long. Sometimes things just don't work out and I had to move on. I wasn't going to play at Motherwell and I wanted to play and I did not want to sit on the bench or in the stands. I had gone out on loan and felt that I did well.

"I spoke to the manager and he told me that he had signed players and that I wasn't going to be first choice. I don't do second best so the best solution was to move somewhere and get to play.

"I had been at Motherwell for six years and I had been full-time since I was 15. There was a lot of new signings in the summer for Motherwell and I walked in on the first day and I didn't know anybody in the dressing room. I was introducing myself to them. That's when I knew the writing was on the wall.”
