Brendan Rodgers last night revealed that new boy Odsonne Edouard earned a round of applause in the Hoops dressing room after his goal-scoring debut for the club.

The 19-year-old French forward netted the fourth of a 4-1 win over Hamilton Accies last night as he marked his first game for Celtic with a fine overall performance.

With PSG looming on the horizon on Tuesday night, the teenager who is on loan from the Parisian club, will have given Rodgers an additional option when it comes to his forward line selection.

Moussa Dembele is in a race to be fit while Leigh Griffiths, who sat out last night on a precautionary basis, is expected to be back too.

But with Patrick Roberts picking up where he left off and Edouard impressing, Rodgers is enthusiastic about the test that lies in wait.

“I was very impressed, [with Odsonne],”said Rodgers. “The kid has just come in this week. He has left Paris, where it was 30 odd degrees, and come to Glasgow, where it has been raining all week and he trained under floodlights on Thursday morning at 11 o’clock.

“Sometimes he must’ve have been wondering what he had let himself in for. But what I saw in the week was his running ability, his speed, his power. His profile suits how we play. He is very hungry too.

“His view of the game was exceptional tonight. His link-up play especially was good. He wants to run in behind which is very important in my team and he wants to score goals. The biggest compliment he gets tonight is that he got a massive round of applause from all the players and the staff in the changing room afterwards because it was such a great start to his Celtic career.

“I can see how Pat has developed. He has gone back to Manchester City and has played and trained and worked with world class players for the last few months. I also see the happiness of him and that is the beauty of him coming back. He knows the systems that we play and the different ways he can fit into them.

“I am very happy with my squad. If you look at the level tonight, the ideas and comfort they have. Whatever we do between now and January, the squad is very strong and whatever team I play will do well.”

And Rodgers has insisted that while the call of PSG is an exciting prospect for Celtic, there was never any light view taken of the game against Hamilton.

“We made it look very simply but we worked very hard,” said Rodgers. “Now we go on to take on one of the best teams on the planet.

“That’s going to be an exciting game for us but this was great preparation mentally and physically.

“Tonight was a big game for us. It might not have been for others but it was for us. There might not have been so many people watching us tonight but the world will be watching n Tuesday.

“But the biggest game was the next game. We wanted to win it and win it well to take the confidence in to the next one.”
